Moving on, we visited L&M Smash Repairs, a long-time industry leader. Here, Dan Maher, a true master of his craft, has taken team welfare and customer service to new heights. His secret weapon? A judicious use of chocolate and an exceptional customer service ethos. It's a unique approach that has built an impressive fleet clientele.
Family Affairs & Succession Planning
Westfield Smash Repairs is a heartwarming family affair, with brother and sister Frank and Mimi Spagnolo at the helm, and Frank's son learning the ropes. It's great to see such a well-planned succession strategy in place, ensuring the longevity of this traditional workshop. Similarly, Sharpline Smash Repairs is another family-run operation, with Mitch, his mum, and sister running the show. Mitch, in his early 30s, has a shop full of Teslas, showcasing his innovative spirit and the shop's ability to adapt to the changing automotive landscape.
Staffing Challenges & Gentrification
Eastside Collision Repair, a second-generation outfit, faced a unique challenge. With staff unable to afford living within a reasonable commute of their Bondi location, they made the tough decision to consolidate their efforts at their Botany site. This highlights the impact of gentrification on the industry and the need for innovative staffing solutions.
A Wrinkle-Free Future
Paddington Smash Repairs, another second-generation business, has also made a strategic move. With the cost of living rising, they've relocated to Banksmeadow, ensuring they can continue to attract and retain talented staff. It's a smart move that ensures the longevity of their business.

Manager Jeremy Wilkes, our first-ever Manager of the Year, embodies the dedication and expertise that make this shop a heaven for any automotive enthusiast.
Downsizing & Pace of Work
At Torrisi Collision Repairs, we met the three Sams - owner Sam, his son Sam, and his grandson Samuel. A full-on Sam fest! Torrisi's story is an interesting one, having downsized during Covid and now operating at a more leisurely pace. It's a reminder that sometimes less is more, and a more relaxed pace can lead to exceptional work.
Vision & Growth
Delta Auto Body, owned by the 'youngster' Mathew Saman, is another exciting shop. With a Globaljig and a focus on exceptional service, Mathew aims to build up fleet work from local businesses. It's a vision that showcases the potential for growth and innovation in the industry.

Lastly, Castle Hill Motorserve, entered in the Corporate category, is a vast shop offering a range of services, including structural repairs. It was great to meet their imported panel beater from Ireland, adding a touch of international expertise and diversity to the team.
